So I’m on a mission to convert my loved ones into watching Long Island Medium on TLC. I first tried with my husband, then my best friend, and last my parents. It failed miserably. They all teared up while watching an episode and asked me over and over again why I liked to watch such a depressing show. The funny thing is that I don’t really find it depressing. There is something very reassuring to me about it all. I know what you are thinking – yes, I probably feel this way because I lost a very close loved one earlier in the year and you are right. There is definitely a part of that that is true. However, that’s not what keeps me watching the show week after week. What keeps me watching it is that I feel like I get a glimpse into a non-traditional therapy session. These people are looking for some sort of peace – a way to move on from the grief – and she gives it to them. Heck, maybe she is a fake and maybe she is taking people for their money, but does it matter? She is making people feel better.
I saw an interview with Theresa Caputo (she’s the medium) and they asked her what she charges for a session. She answered that her rate hasn’t changed since she’s been on the show. She said that she doesn’t want to charge people loads of money to get a message from her loved ones – that she feels she is doing God’s work. I found that interesting. She seems to get joy out of helping others – what a rarity in today’s society.
So what do you think? Am I nuts for believing in this woman? We’ll see because I signed up to get a reading done by her. She has a massive waiting list so I’ll let you know when it does happen down the line. In the meantime, I’ll keep believing that my own loved ones are just waiting to chat with me and fill me in on what life is like on the “other side”.

Its definitely an interesting show. I find that I am always waiting for her to say something about life after death. I would want details. Is there a God? Was their a light? Did dying hurt, stuff like that.
I LOVE that show! And I too, tried to get my husband to watch it and like it too – but no luck. I find it reassuring too. But maybe it’s because I lost my mom to suicide and think of her in all this? Think that if I were to meet Terry that she could put my heart at ease by letting me know my mom was ok and so forth. Great, now I’m tearing up at work..
PLEASE let me know how the reading is..I seriously have wanted to do this – not with just anyone, but with her. I like her. I’ve met other “mediums” before not to do a reading but amongst my family members in the past and it never sat well with me.
Anyway, I should get back to work!!
I’m so sorry for your loss – I can only imagine how much you would like answers. There is a two year waiting list for a reading with her so it’ll be awhile before it gets done. Let me know if you ever decide to get one, I’d be interested in hearing how it goes. Thanks for reading, too – much appreciated!
I LOVE the show. I talk about it all the time and I try to get people to watch. I’ve seen every epsiode and I will probably cry when Victoria goes off to college.
Are you having better luck getting people to buy into it than I am? Everyone always tells me she is fake but I just don’t think so…
I watched it the other night and all I could think of was “Is that really how Long Islanders dress?” You would know better than me! I got scared off by her fingernails
Well…uhm…there might be a few family members of mine that dress that way, but I’m not naming names.
We don’t have cable, so the only time I’ve seen Long Island Medium is in a hotel on vacation. But the last time that happened, TLC happened to be running a marathon, so… I stayed up till midnight watching! I find it very… interesting. Intriguing. She’s definitely a character. Plus she reminded me of someone that i couldn’t quite put my finger on, so I kept trying to figure it out, LOL. The hubs? Thought I was nuts & went to sleep. Oh well!
