It’s time to talk about guns. Yes, it’s time.

momaha logoIt’s time to talk about gun control. Yes, it is also time to mourn and be sad. But if we don’t use this horrible tragedy as a wake up call, what else will it take? I wrote about this for my weekly post for Omaha World Herald’s Momaha, and hope you’ll read and share your thoughts at the bottom of the article.  It’s time to start talking about this and making a change.

  1. I was going to comment on the Momaha article, but people are downright rude sometimes, so I figured I’d keep my audience smaller and more intimate ;)

Anyway, I completely agree with the Second Amendment is outdated in terms of what “arms” we actually have the right to bear. I don’t, however, think the solution is to ban all guns because, like drugs and prostitution, they’ll be available anyway. We certainly need stricter regulations, though. The fact that any Schmo can buy and wield a gun is ridiculous. There are stricter regulations for those who FISH!

But I also think the trouble lies within the mental health system…or lack thereof. I came across this article yesterday and it really got me thinking much differently. It also made me very sad and quite afraid, if I’m being honest. It seems that these “mass murderers” are fairly “normal” people most of their lives–makes it pretty difficult to identify and deal with them, ya know? Anyway, here’s the link to the article. Lemme know what ya think! http://thebluereview.org/i-am-adam-lanzas-mother/

  2. I agree with the comment above – I can’t read those crazy comments. It makes me cry even more when I hear people say that we need to arm teachers, and so on. It’s just so ignorant – such populist nonsense.
